You need to consider, are you a young adult male or female, middle aged or in your later years? Those are all important considerations you need to factor in, when deciding on which supplements to take. You take what you need to take, starting with a foundation, like a multi-vitamin.

Here’s a few suggestions on vitamins to take if you are female?

Depending on what age you are and what type of life style you have as a female, will depend on what types of vitamins you may need. For example, I would suggest you look at Omega 3′s and 6 (make sure you get EPA and DHA essential fatty acids), calcium, and vitamin D are 3 nutrients that you need to make sure you are getting adequate amounts of on a daily basis. Considering that about 50% of the North American population takes a daily vitamin, obviously many feel that they are simply lacking the necessary nutrition in their normal day to day diets.

One of the problems I find, is when asking health experts. If you ask 100 experts the same question about nutrition and what vitamins should I take, you will clearly get a 1oo different answers. Sometimes you might get just a general answer, but that really is not going to help you overall. The reality of life, how many of us really sit down each day, and get all the balanced nutrition our bodies actually need? I would guess by the excess obesity and over weight people in society, the answer if probably, very few get the necessary nutrition every single day.

Regular Vitamins to take depending on your physical activity

Another area to consider is, how active are you on a day to day basis? For example, if you are an avid jogger, elite athlete, marathon runner etc., then those are extra considerations for your daily intake. So, what vitamins should I take, will always depend on you level of physical activity. I like people like Dr. Oz on TV, who is very open minded and pro supplementation. He seems to take a practical approach to integrating western medicine, with eastern medicine. Other doctors that come to mind are, Dr. Andrew Weil, who advocates taking certain vitamins, minerals etc. Remember, supplementation is about filling in those gaps, where you might miss out from a poor diet.

Vitamins For Males

It will depend on all aspects of your lifestyle. If you are a teenager for instance and physically active, then you may need extra supplementation, even with a balanced diet, because your body is still growing, plus the extra demands you are placing on it. If you are middle aged, like I am, then adjusting your daily supplementation regiment if probably in order. I certainly don’t need extra iron, like women do. So, I make sure my multi vitamins are designed around, what a guy needs for optimal health.

I do try to get all the nutrition I can from food, but the reality is this, I know I simply lack a proper and balanced diet. Therefore, I use supplements, like mentioned above, to fill in the gap.

For males, I would focus on omega 3 and 6, a good all around multi-vitamin, B vitamins, CoEnzyme Q-10. If you are younger and say body building, then you will have a higher requirement for protein.
